S&S® Complete V96 Engines For 1984-’99 Big Twins
The old timers at S&S® remember when they started producing engine packages. Back then, the 96”, 35⁄8” bore engine was the "king". Everyone loved the 96 incher because it made great power, it was reliable, engine life was exceptional, and being essentially stock height, it fit well in a stock frame. Well, time moves on. Nowadays, those who really want to stretch their arms and blur their vision, gravitate to the V113 and V124 engines. But if you’re looking to replace a worn out stock Harley-Davidson® Evolution® engine with something a bit more potent without breaking the bank, you still can’t beat a V96.
NEW HEADS FOR 2009!
This year S&S offers an updated version of the V96 that makes it an even better
value and a better “daily driver”. The main difference is the replacement of
the SuperStock® cylinder heads and domed piston with S&S Performance
replacement heads and a flat topped piston. The design of the combustion
chamber and piston used with the new heads make the new V96 less prone to
knock. That’s a real plus in hot weather and in touring applications when the
selection of fuel may be limited. Are we losing anything? We dyno tested the
new V96 engine back to back with the old style V96 and the dyno curves are
nearly identical. See the dyno chart on this page.
Special pricing makes the V96 competitive with imported engines, but when
you consider the performance, excellent reliability, and engine life of the U.S.
built V96, the choice is obvious. The S&S V96 comes with chrome plated rocker
covers, tappet guides, and gear cover, in addition to S&S standard rocker arms,
an S&S Super E carburetor, and your choice of S&S Super Stock® or IST® ignition
systems.
Pictured: The S&S 96” engine has been an industry standard for years. The addition of the S&S 585 cam gives it some extra kick. This S&S IST™ equipped V96 is shown with natural finish and billet tappet guides and special IST gearcover. The performance of the updated S&S V96 is nearly identical to the older V96 configuration, but with better tolerance to hot weather and less than premium gasoline. These dyno results are from an S&S V96" engine just the way they come out of the box.
