Star Racing Hosts “Rolling Thunder" During 2009 Ride Home Celebration
September 22, 2009, Americus, GA – Star Racing hosted an open house for the 2009 Rolling Thunder Ride Home celebration September 17th. Over 1,000 motorcyclists visited Americus during this multi-day annual event to recognize and honor the nation’s Prisoners of War and those Missing in Action. An estimated 175 former POWs attended as guests of Rolling Thunder.
The four day celebration included a convocation hosted by Georgia Southwestern State University, dedication ceremonies at the Andersonville National Historic Site, aircraft flyovers, a hero’s parade through Americus, a remembrance service at the First Baptist Church, a tribute dinner and candlelight ceremony at the Lake Blackshear Resort and music by the U.S. Marine Band.
Motorcyclists made their way to Star Racing on Thursday night for a pizza party and open house. Tours were given of the Star facility and riders were able to witness engine cylinder heads being machined and a motorcycle being tested on the chassis dyno. The group was amazed by the rows of NHRA trophies, the custom motorcycles and sportbikes, v-twin engines, and the parts warehouse displaying a vast array of 4-cylinder and v-twin parts and accessories that are available. The visit concluded with a trip through the full service machine shop and engine dyno testing areas.
On Friday morning, the Star 18-wheeler served as a hospitality area during the staging line-up for the escorted ride to the Andersonville National Cemetery. Crowds of bikers gathered around t
o take a look inside the motorcycle drag racing transporter and learn more about how Star Racing became an internationally recognized company.
