You may remember that Star Racing was part of the "WyoTech Road Burner" custom bike build that aired on Spike's Horsepower TV a couple of years ago. This motorcycle was awarded to one lucky winner out of thousands of entries as part of a sweepstakes give-a-away. The bike was also part of the S&S Cycle 50th Anniversary biker World's Biggest Biker Build-Off and included the 126", 4-3/8" bore, 4-3/16" stroke high performance engine. | UPCOMING EVENTS: |
  The engines are on the dyno, we are putting the finishing touches on the motorcycle, and we're loading the truck for a couple of upcoming races. The SEMDRA race will be held June 5-6 at South Georgia Motorsports Park in Valdosta, GA. Two races will be offered - one on Saturday and another on Sunday so racers can save money on fuel and lodging. For more info click here On the 12th & 13th of June the truck will travel to Montgomery AL for the AMA Dragbike event. We will be entered in the new Pro Comp class that was announced in last month's newsletter. It should be an exciting and interesting race. Click here for more info. |
| TECH TIPS - GIVE YOUR HEAD A PORT JOB - PART 3 |
 Should port work be included when installing larger pistons or higher lift camshafts? Yes, it is very important to have the cylinder head upgraded as well. Remember the air pump analogy. A one-size larger pistons will usually be OK, but anything larger will actually start choking the engine. The engine runs, but is screaming for air. The larger bore cannot be filled with the current head setup. The head will have to come off and have larger valves installed and port work done to get the engine back to maximum efficiency. This is why you should talk to a professional before starting a project of this nature. What are the different stages of port work? At Star Racing we have four levels of port work beginning with the Street/Strip and continuing up to a Stage III. The Street/Strip port work will remove all blemishes left behind by the factory casting. A Stage I is basically the same as a Street/Strip but is usually accompanied by larger valves on the stock valve seats with additional port work to match. A Stage II typically involves replacing the stock seats in order to install even larger valves. The Stage III is an all out Pro Stock port job. Part 4 next issue. | ADRL HUNTSVILLE & MEMPHIS REPORT |
The Star race team with rider Anne Hansen competed at the TT Jones Two Wheel Sunday race in Huntsville on May 15th. Anne was riding great and qualified no. 3, but once again rain moved in and the race was cancelled. The team also traveled to the ADRL Memphis race May 21-22. Anne qualified no. 13, but in the first round of eliminations the bike went toward the wall and the engine developed mechanical problems. She lost the round to Kim Morrell. |
