LEESBURG, Ga. – One Albany/Leesburg area business is getting national recognition for their custom paint work on two professional drag racing motorcycles for the Americus-based Star Racing.

Master Body Works, located on U.S. Highway 19 near Albany, partnered with Star Racing owner George Bryce in February after Bryce’s Pro Stock Motorcycle team announced their plans to race in the National Hot Rod Association’s (NHRA) 2012 Full Throttle Drag Racing Series. This announcement created quite a stir in drag racing circles since it marked Star Racing’s return after a three-year hiatus, the longest break in the team’s more than 30-year career in the sport.

The decision to race again came as a result of Bryce’s partnership with the 2011 UEM European Championship Team, Sovereign Racing, which Bryce led as the team’s chief tuner and coach while they competed throughout Europe last year.

After winning the 2011 UEM European Championship, Sovereign team owner Jenõ Rujp set his sights on taking his professional motorcycle drag racing team to America to compete.

“Jeno won in Europe. His team won six out of seven races,” Bryce said. “And, then, he wanted a big challenge, and I said, ‘You picked it if you want to race in America, if you want to race NHRA.’ I told him it was going to be like running Formula 1 compared to what he was doing. It’s a big challenge, and it’s a big dream for him.”

The same 2010 Buell XB12R motorcycles that won the championship in Europe were transported to Star Racing’s shop in Americus, Ga., along with several of their replacement engines.

Both rookie riders chosen to pilot the team’s motorcycles, John Hall and Scotty Pollacheck, are graduates of Bryce’s drag racing school in Gainesville, Fla. Pollacheck, who resides in Medford, Ore., attended the school in 1994, not very long after it began. Hall, a resident of Hamden, Conn., went to Bryce’s school only a few years ago and bought a Pro Stock motorcycle while in Gainesville at the time.

The new Sovereign-Star Racing team owners, Rujp and Bryce, wanted the bodywork on the motorcycles to reflect the combination of the two racing teams, which required combining Star Racing’s team colors of yellow and red with Sovereign’s shades of blue. After coming up with a design that suited both sides, Bryce enlisted the help of Kevin Haase at Master Body Works to complete the challenging task of merging these two, unique color schemes.

The finished product was enough to make heads turn. The motorcycles’ custom paint design features splashes of yellow at the front of the bike that switch to bright red along the center portion before fading to a deep blue. The makeover was complete after the Sovereign-Star Racing team applied their own decals and those of their sponsors and supporters to the motorcycles.

This unique, colorful design by Master Body Works has been featured nationally on ESPN throughout the year as the team has competed in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series. This series has taken the Sovereign-Star Racing team across the country to Texas, New Jersey, Colorado and California, to name a few.

While in Commerce, Ga., for the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals in May, the team was awarded the 2012 Best Appearing Crew Award, which is given to only one out the approximately 400 entries at each race. This honor commends teams for their overall team presentation and the unity of their team brand.

This Best Appearing Crew Award would not have been possible without the professional design work of Master Body Works, as well as contributions from Tony Baudier, who not only created the designs for the team’s motorcycles, semi-trailer and crew shirts but also completed the partial graphics wrap for their semi-trailer; ProThings.com, the company that produced the team shirts; and JKS Motorsports, the company that printed the decals for the motorcycles.
