S&S Cycle and Star Racing recently revealed their joint venture at the annual bike rally in Sturgis, SD.
Project
History
S&S Cycle and five of the motorcycle industry's leading custom motorcycle
designers launched the 145 Tribute project in March of 2003 to celebrate
S&S’s 45th anniversary and to salute Harley-Davidson in their 100th year.
Using the 145 cubic inch S&S Tribute engines, the five builders in the
Tribute team each built 9 bikes for a total of 45. The Tribute engines were
sequentially serial numbered from 1958 to 2003, one for each year that
S&S has been in business. If you count carefully you will see that this adds
up to 46 serial numbers. One final bike was needed. Instead
of building
another radical street bike that would be more likely to end up as a collector’s
item than a "rider", S&S decided that #46 would be
a race bike designed to compete in the Street Pro class of the AHDRA. Based on a
modified Harley-Davison® chassis, this bike reflects the long
standing tradition that S&S has with racing and with providing high
performance equipment that is accessible to anyone who wants to go fast.
