NOTES AND QUOTES: Fred Collis earned his first NHRA PowerAde Drag Racing Series victory this weekend at the 39th Annual Pontiac Excitement Nationals.  While the rainy weather tested the team’s patience, it could not dampen the spirit of Collis and his Star Racing Suzuki.  From the number one qualifying position, Collis paced the field and powered his way to the best performance of his career, eventually defeating Karen Stoffer in a showdown of potential first-time NHRA winners.

George Bryce: “It was great to see Fred finally show his potential!  I knew he could do it, but I was beginning to wonder when!  Great job by our whole crew.  Also, a big shout out to Fred’s teammate, Reggie Showers, who is showing the same rate of improvement.  Reggie said we are working together like a colony of ants!  It is very cool to run two bikes (the PDI bike and the Star Racing/Snap-on bike), so we can learn twice as fast.”

Fred Collis: “What a weekend.  It definitely was our time to shine.  I went into the race with a plan and stuck to it all weekend and we got the results we wanted.  All the hype in the beginning of the season about Fred Collis was about the Fred that showed up in Columbus, OH.  This is my first NHRA PowerAde win and I can’t describe how great it feels.”

“I want to thank Star Racing, Snap-on, Precision Automotive of Americus, GA, US-19 Dragway in Albany, GA, and Dublin, GA’s Paul’s Cycle Shop for all their support – but we are still looking for a major sponsor to continue our pace.  I also want to thank George Bryce (best coach on the planet), Ken “Big” Johnson (awesome crew chief), Kassi Ruff (the best videographer), “Big” George (you know who you are), and all the fans.”
